Create Records in Multiple Objects from a Single Form
Screen Flow in Salesforce is one of the many types of Flows that you can use to enhance your users’ experience. For example, you can create a user interface (UI) to collect information in one screen and save it multiple objects behind the scenes or you can present a wizard like UI to guide users through the business process.
And what makes screen flow attractive is that you can do all this without writing a single line of code. All using declarative point-and-click tools. Ah, now I have your attention.
Screen Flow can be added to a Lightning page, a Lightning Community, or can be launched from a Quick Action.
You can control the header and footer for the screen. Moreover, control the navigation in between screens by enabling or disabling ‘Next or Finish’ and ‘Previous’ buttons. There is also a provision to ‘Pause’ the Flow which can be resumed by the users later.
Screen element of Flow contains various standard input components such as: Address, Call Script, Checkbox, Currency, Date & Time, Picklists, Display Image, Email, File Upload, Long Text Area, Lookup, Multi-Select Picklist, Name, Number, Password, Phone, Radio Buttons, Slider, Text, Toggle, URL etc.
And a standard ‘Display Text’ component to display information to users running the Flow. Also, you can get more Screen components on the AppExchange (wow !) .
One of the coolest features is that you can make the Flow screen dynamic with Conditional visibility. Control when a component appears depending on the condition and logic you set and the screen will change dynamically during runtime. Last but not the least, you are able to validate a user’s input in a Flow screen and display an error message accordingly to guide the user to correct the input.
For this guide, we will be covering only a few of the aforementioned features and components. After going through this guide, within the next 45 minutes, you will learn how to:
- Create a Screen Flow
- Save & Activate the Screen Flow
- Add Screen Flow to the Lightning Page
- Test the Screen Flow
- Launch Flow From Quick Action
- Multi-Column Screen Flow (Introduced in Spring ’21 Release)
In this guide we will be creating a form to capture the account, contact and case details in a single form, will save the data in three different objects and link the records with each other. Just imagine the time and effort your users will need to put without the screen flow.

I am going over the create a screen flow and the pdf doesn’t reflect on what I see now. For example, I no longer need to choose about what do I want to start building, and there is no navigation anymore on the new screen I need to go to footer. Please update it. These might be small things but when someone is new, all big and small details and changes count.
Hi Flora, thanks for your feedback. Currently, we are in the process of upgrading our course “Mastering Salesforce Flows” as per the latest version of Salesforce and as a part of that exercise, we will also be changing the screenshots of these guides in the blog post. I completely understand that these small things do make a difference to beginners. I am with you on that. 🙂
This is a good example to learn Screen Flow with a dynamic visibility. The step by step guide as always so detailed. Just a couple minor changes on the slides may avoid missteps. Page 49 and 50, the arrow is pointing to the wrong component. Page 61 – Step 3 should select “Is Null” rather than “Equals”.
The other thing is When I launch the Flow in Contact record page using Quick Action, should I expect the Account and Contact Information be auto-filled? From your slides, it looks like the Account and Contact information are autofilled, but not in my Flow. Am I doing something wrong? Cheers!
Hi Jeffrey, thank you very much for pointing out errors. I have corrected those. With regards to your other query, the Account and Contact information will not be pre-populated when you launch the Flow from an Action on the Contact page. I have selected those records from lookup fields to show the Case creation process remains the same. I have mentioned the same in the yellow box on the slide so that others don’t get confused as well. Cheers!
